Reboot – this attracted my attention
On the first day of Reboot 9.0 Michel Bauwens spoke about P2P. The presentation of P2P was not very interesting but he mentioned that some people in the Netherlands believed that the first open source car will be built in 2011.
The question is very good – and why not! Imagine you can design your own car, choose between 5, 6 or 7 gear and manual/auto gearbox. Furthermore you can choose between a 20 km/l diesel-engine or the newest Porsche 911 turbo engine.
The cars will probably not hit the roads in 2011 due to patent registrations, crashtests etc. But if you google “open source car” you will find the OScar project, so don’t say that your opinion cannot make a difference.
Hurry up and finish the car… We have 4 years to do good with, imagine your own design on your own car, with of course the Porsche 911 turbo engine, perhaps in my Peugeot 206 chassis…
The remaining question is if this is a bit more “IT” than “vehicle”; but let’s not kill the illusion.
Meanwhile – let’s hope that the Danish levy on cars will be reduced so the worlds first Open Source Car will be affordable in Denmark.
